Kapahaka Performance at the 2015 Cultural Festival.

Hi Viewers

We have a Kapa haka at South Hornby School that got a great opportunity to perform at the Cultural Festival 2015. We had to work very, very hard to get this opportunity. At a cultural festival you get to experience many different cultures as in Samoan, Maori, Pacifica and others. I was amazed when I heard that the South Hornby Kapa haka would be performing on something that would go on YouTube and Maori Television. Our Culture that we wanted people to experience was Maori because at our school we are learning Maori with Matua Mike.

At home when I was getting ready, my mum straightened my hair ( We had to be at school by 4:30pm). When I got back to school, before the performance, I remembered that we were meant to be in our uniforms... Uh-Oh! But then I realised that I wasn’t the only one without my uniform on - Kyra wasn’t in her uniform either. Once Kyra and I were there we then got told that we were meant to be in our uniforms. We got dressed into our clothes and here is the sign on it…

Then we got on our makeup which was Black lipstick and Black eye liner. Once we were ready we went to Horncastle Arena.

When we got to Horncastle Arena I was not calm at all, Once we went inside I was so scared. First we watched part of the first schools performance then went to go and put on our Pupu’s. When we were all ready we waited backstage until it was our turn. When it was our turn I went out to sing my heart out but not only for myself but for my Grandad too.

Our leaders are Mrs Dinnington Matua Mike and Mrs Harris. The songs we sung were Purerehua, Hallelujah, The Haka and Hoki Mai. Before we went to put on our Pupu’s we watched two songs that were performed by the first school.  When we were ready it was our time to perform.

We had a really good time at the performance because One, I got to see my family in the second row on seats (Seats 15, 16, 17, 18 & 19). At the end of our performance we went backstage to take off our piu-piu’s then we all went back to our seats to start packing up our stuff. At 9:00pm, when the whole thing finished, we met our parents near the Ticketek box and my Dad came to get me. I had the best time ever.
When I got home, mum and dad took millions of photos of me to put on facebook and I think it was because they were proud.
