Sexy Paragraphs - The Hunger Games

In the dystopian novel, The Hunger Games, shots like the one shown above were used very effectively. For example, the director, Gary Ross used a medium-close up in this scene where Katniss shoots the apple from the pig's mouth as people were about to eat it. This helps the audience understand what people who are poor really have to do in the world to actually be noticed for once and that it can be a very good idea to take a risk every once and a while. The purpose of this was to show the audience what you could be feeling if you are ever put in the same position. Thanks to Katniss doing this she got the highest ranking score out of all tributes. This reminds me of how people take risks in society nowadays, you don’t always succeed but you may regret it if you don’t at least try.

Rue’s death had a lot to do with the improvements of Katniss as a character in The Hunger Games. We see this when she first sees Rue, she helped take care of her after being stung by those bees which in return caused Katniss to be a bit more empathetic towards her. This makes the audience wonder if a certain person can actually change someone or if that’s all just stories and fairy tales. The purpose of this shot and scene was to show the ghoulishness of what happens in the game and it really helps prove that everyone wants to be the last person standing. This worked well with Katniss’s connections to the other characters and it really did develop her character. This aspect can be compared to many other movies and tv shows which helps us understand it is a real thing and it does happen whether or not we want it too.

The scene where Katniss volunteers to save her sister really shows the importance of family. This is demonstrated in the movie when she volunteered as tribute, her sister was chosen for the “honour” but Katniss didn’t want that to happen. This makes the audience feel like they want a bond with a family member like that or they should start talking with their whanau more. The purpose of this was to try and connect with others and their families, having a bond like Katniss and Primrose would be one of the best things ever. This worked well with the end scene when Katniss and Peeta return from competing and Prim has the biggest smile on her face as if she’s just won $190 billion dollars. This reminds me personally of the bond I had with my cousin and how much I really wanna get that bond back.

The girl on fire scene is the most iconic scene in the whole movie to me personally. This is shown by the roars of the audience once the fire lit up and Katniss cheered it on as well. This makes us understand that it is a good thing to stand out and not be so bland and boring all the time. It also shows that you don’t have to do something just because it is what everyone else would’ve done. The purpose of this was to make people wanna stand out and make people want to be different and not just be the same old same old all the time. This worked well with the interview scene when Katniss was again wearing her flames, once showing them off the audience adored it and she was so thankful. This aspect can be compared to the people that live in the capitol, for once someone from district 12 was standing out but for them looking crazy and wearing bright, beautiful colours is just an everyday thing.
