Workshop 2 - The Hunger Games

A low angle is shown near the end of the video, it’s significance is the fact that it is a low angle looking up towards Katniss turned around looking at the flag of Panem. - the flag shows the theme of “struggle for power” which means that district 12 and Katniss have no power over the world and The Capitol does.
Rich vs Poor:
- Effie’s clothes shown in a close up - you can see she is very wealthy.
  • Wide shot shows the people of district 12 - It’s shown in this way because district 12 doesn’t have any real material wealth.
  • Compare and Contrast - District 12 vs The Capitol.
Struggle for Power:
- point of view shots between Katniss and the audience once she volunteers and the audience does the 3 finger salute.

2-3 sentence:
In the reaping scene, we are shown the Rich vs Poor theme from Effie and District 12’s clothing.
Katniss volunteers without thinking and because of this she is shown from many different angles and is made to look vulnerable from a low angle showing the flag of Panem in the background.

Paragraph:

The reaping scene shown in the Hunger Games shows us the theme of Rich vs Poor through the use of wide shots and close ups. The comparison of the wealth of the Capitol, represented by Effie and the poorness of District 12 represented by Katniss is seen in a wide shot during the reaping. A close-up shot of Effie reveals quality, colourful make-up and costumes. The wide shot of the crowd is used to show that they are forced to be there. It also shows a lack of colour in the population of District 12’s material and costume to show they are poor.
