Sexy Paragraph:
In the reaping scene of The Hunger Games, costumes are used effectively to show the theme of Rich vs Poor. This is demonstrated when the people of District 12 are waiting for someone to be chosen to represent their district in The Hunger Games. The lifestyle of District 12 is reflected and shown with the clothes they wear. These clothes are not bright, they’re not colourful but they are dull, boring and plain. This makes us understand that costumes represent the theme of Rich v Poor; rich being the Capitol and poor being District 12. There is a big difference between the opportunity, power and privilege seen between the Capitol and District 12. The director did this to make the audience realise that there are people in our world today who have more power, privilege and opportunity then some of us. This was also to show the audience how costumes can symbolise inequality between District 12 and the Capitol. This symbolism combined with a wide shot of the crowd in District 12 and an over the shoulder shot reveal the lack of opportunity in District 12 and the power of the Capitol. This aspect can be contrasted to the character of Effie, she wears a bright pink dress with a lot of design behind it revealing the opportunities given to the citizens of the Capitol.
